Hello Everyone,
What a great term one we have had at school!! We have been super busy in Rang a hAon so far this year between learning activities and reuniting with friends after the summer holidays.
We started back with our story ‘Looking After Zara’ which the class met some very interesting characters and places. We wrote notes to our friends and we learned about nouns and verbs through our story. We made predictions of what we thought might happen next in the story and also used comprehension strategies throughout.
In our ceactanna Gaeilge we have been focusing on Bia and An Scoil as well as learning some new songs as Gaeilge. We have also learned some spooky Óiche Shamhna tales along the way as well as getting in the Christmas Spirit in recent weeks. We have learned lots of songs and games to consolidate our learning in these areas.
We have been extremely busy with the New Maths Curriculum also and introducing this into our school. This is a much more hands on and child-centred approach to learning and helps the children be more involved in their own learning. We had a super time during maths week in first class where we completed lots of various challenges and games to help improve our understanding of various topics throughout the week.
Music Generation have been back again this year and the class have loved this each week. We have learned about beat, rhythm and tempo. We even got to play the bongo, shakers and the ukulele too, as well as learning all about the parts of the guitar. This was a great help as we prepared for our Christmas Show.
Our class has also been very active in our PE lessons so far this year. We were very lucky to have had the use of amazing athletics equipment form the Limerick’s Sports Partnership which allowed use to complete this strand using: hurdles, javelin, long jump and relays which the class loved taking part in.
The Christmas Show was a major focus in recent weeks and what an amazing job the children did on the day and the night show. All the time spent practicing lines, dance moves and songs certainly paid off. To top off a great week we enjoyed an amazing performance of ‘Mother Goose’ in the University Concert Hall.
As we now turn our attention to 2025, I would like to thank you all for your continued support.
Regards,
Mr Neville
