Happy Easter from Fifth and Sixth Class!
It has been a busy and exciting term for us, filled with learning, growth, and plenty of fun!
On March 19th, we celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation. We conducted ourselves beautifully in church, reading and singing with great care, and delivering the gifts with reverence. Ms. Wixted is incredibly proud of our behaviour and the way we represented our faith. We are excited to continue showing the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives. A huge thank you to Fr. Wrenn, Fr.Dominic, and all the priests who supported us through our Confirmation retreat and confession.
In January, Sixth Class participated in the VEX Regional Robotics Competition in Dell, where we showed off our hard work and preparation. Our drivers did an outstanding job, and we were thrilled to win the Excellence Award, the Robot Skills Champion, and the Team Challenge Award. These achievements earned us a spot in the National Competition at MTU on February 27th. The team worked seamlessly together, and we couldn’t have done it without the guidance and encouragement from Ian O’Gorman and Jason O’Shaughnessy – thank you both for your unwavering support!
On Pancake Tuesday, Sixth Class hosted our annual Pop-Up Café, where everyone enjoyed delicious pancakes and homemade baked goods. Well done to all involved for making it a memorable day!
We also took part in the FAI 5-a-side Soccer Blitz in Corbally, where one of our girls’ teams qualified for the next round. It was a fantastic day with lots of close matches! In addition, we participated in the Mini 7s Hurling and Camogie Competitions at Mick Neville Park, where we played incredibly well as a team. To top it off, we’ve started swimming lessons at UL this month, making it a term full of exciting physical activities.
In History, we worked on projects about Northern Ireland, focusing on The Troubles and the Peace Process. We conducted thorough research and created posters and PowerPoint presentations, which we presented to the class. The competition for the best group project was fierce, and the prize was well-deserved!
We also celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge with a Tráth na gCeist quiz for 3rd to 6th class, where we had great fun showcasing our Gaeilge skills. Bhí an-spórt againn! We also enjoyed literacy stations, where we explored dictionary work, spellings, phonics and word work in various groups. Thank you to Ms. Ruddle who coordinated this, we have really benefited from these activities! We also worked on explanatory writing this month and really impressed our teacher with our amazing individual pieces titled ‘How Animals Adapt to their Environment’ at the end of the term.
We also explored key Maths concepts such as fractions, decimals, and percentages, as well as weight, length, and area. Through interactive games and hands-on activities, we were able to make learning these topics fun and engaging.
A special thanks to Linda, who helps us every day in the classroom. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Cháisc Shona Daoibh go léir! Wishing you all a joyful Easter holiday!
