It’s hard to believe we have been back in school for a month. How time flies!
The boys and girls in 3rd and 4th class got off to a great start this year. They have settled back into the school routine and they are working really hard for their teacher Ms. Mann.
The pupils are already enjoying some new initiatives. Last week, they paired up with Senior Infants for ‘Buddy Reading’. It was a big hit from the get-go and the children (both big and small) are looking forward to lots of shared reading with their ‘buddies’ over the next term.
The 3rd and 4th class pupils have also been engaging in STEM challenges over the last couple of weeks. These STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) challenges encourage the boys and girls to use their hands and brains to develop a wide range of skills including communication skills and problems solving to name but a few. They have many more exciting challenges to get stuck into over the coming academic year.
As part of the ‘European Week of Sport and Physical Activity’, 3rd and 4th class walked ten laps of the school grounds. That was 2,065 steps. Wow! Well done guys! They also participated in other activities including Zumba and Bootcamp and they even beat the teachers in a skipping relay race.
We have already had a visitor in to speak to the class. Seán from ‘An Tasice’ gave a presentation on Tuesday 20th September. He was very impressed with the level of knowledge and work that the pupils did last year as part of our Green Schools Flag for Global Citizenship. They pupils were fascinated with the experiments Seán carried out and a lot of learning took place. We will also have Tara from GOAL visiting the class in October and another surprise visitor is lined up for later in the term.
Check out the photos of all of the above action and some other things we have been up to since coming back to school. Don’t forget to keep an eye on our website regularly for updates.
