Nollaig Shona Daoibh!
What a busy and exciting term we have had!
A very special visitor came to the classroom this month. Tina Tinsel the elf stays with us every day and goes back to Santa every night with stories from the day. We love finding her new hiding place every morning.
Last month, we took part in Science week. We love Science and had great fun trying out different experiments every day. We made lava lamps, investigated walking water, explored optical illusions and made thaumatropes. We learned all about the water cycle and made a rain storm in a jar. We also had our own Science Show. Everyone got the chance to demonstrate their own experiment. It was an amazing show!
In Geography, we talked about what we do at home at Christmas and discussed Christmas traditions around the world. We learned that many Australians have Christmas dinner on the beach. We thought that sounded fun.
In Literacy, we have been learning the poem ‘Santa’s Spill’. We explored persuasive writing and loved taking part in walking debates. We had some very convincing arguments for why Santa should give us presents this year. 2ndclass love DEAR time. We are great readers and are so proud of how much our reading has improved.
We have been working hard on Gaeilge again this term. We love singing songs as Gaeilge. Our favourites are ‘Seamaisín’ and ‘Áthas anDomhan’. We explored the themes of ‘Bia’ and ‘An Nollaig’. We learned lots of new vocabulary and are working very hard on verbs. We are super at putting our verbs into sentences.
2ndclass have created fabulous artwork this term. Inspired by Roald Dahl’s‘ Fantastic Mr Fox’ which Ms. Moloney read to us, 2nd class made woodland themed prints with black markers, water and tin foil. Take a look at the beautiful colours! We also made super snow globes with chalk, really cool reindeer ornaments from clothes pegs and lovely decorations to hang on our Christmas trees.
Junior Infants to 2nd class were very excited to perform a Christmas Show called ‘Whoops-A-Daisy Angel’ this term. It told the story of a very clumsy angel who was given the very important job of spreading the news of the birth of the baby Jesus. We all had a special part to play. We worked very hard and practised every day, learning our lines, singing and dancing. We were so proud of our amazing show. The week after our performance, we were very lucky to visit U.L. to see the Peter Pan panto. We really enjoyed it.
Happy Christmas and A Happy New Year from Rang a Dó!! 🎅🎄
