We have had such a busy time in school since Halloween. We are working hard on our blending and learning new sounds. Ms. Balfry is so proud of us. We have also started our first reader. It’s called ‘The Picnic’ and we are enjoying reading the story with all our new favourite characters in it. We have also been learning how to form our new sounds and we are using our whiteboards and workbooks to practice our writing.
We love reciting rhymes together everyday and are learning new numbers in Maths. We love using materials when we have our Maths lessons because it helps us to understand better. We also like playing the Maths games on the whiteboard. We are always trying to beat our top scores in the number game! Thanks to Chloe and our new Music Generation teacher Aoibhinn for coming in every week. We started learning how to play the ukulele this month and we really enjoy using the different coloured instruments.
We had our first Science Week and Anti Bullying Week in November. We talked about bullying and how it is not allowed in our school. We spoke about how to be kind to one another and Ms. Balfry gave us kindness certificates when she saw us doing very kind things! We loved Science Week and did lots of experiments in class like explosions using vinegar and bread soda, dancing raisins and rainbow milk. We drew pictures of all of them in our copies when we were finished.
We have had lots of super helpers in our room this term. Fifth class and Second Class came in to do peer tutoring with us and helped us with our sounds, sight words, blending and reading. Thank you to all of them! We also entered a competition where we had to decorate a Christmas tree using recyclable or recycled materials. We had lots of fun trying out different ideas for the tree. We worked together with Senior Infants on the project and we decided on a candy cane background with decorations made from toilets rolls, old socks and plastic bottles. We couldn’t believe it when we found out we came 3rd in the Junior Category!! We hope we can enter it again next year.
We have been practicing hard for our first Christmas show in Kilcornan since we came back after our Halloween holidays. Ciara and Emma come in and practice with us every week. We are dancing a waltz together and singing a song for the show. We have been practicing the seat home and at school everyday and we are excited to take to the stage. Our show is called ‘Nativity News’ and we really hope everyone likes it!
As a treat after the show, we will be going to see a panto in U.L. It’s called ‘Mother Goose’ and we are really looking forward to going on the bus and watching it. We think it might be funny and have lots of singing and dancing in it!
A special visitor came to our room this month. His name is Charlie and he is one of Santa’s elves! He watches us in school every day and reports back to Santa each night. He told us we are all on the nice list! We are delighted, but we know we have to keep working hard to stay on it! We will keep using our Kind Words, Kind Hands and Kind Feet.
We have a wibbly wobbly Christmas tree in our room too! It’s very funny because it only had two legs. Then Ms. Balfry broke one of the legs, so now it only has one leg! It is leaning against the bookshelf. We are going to write a story about it because we think it is very funny!
Thanks to Catherine who helps us in our classroom every day. We are looking forward to the Christmas break and to Santa coming to visit our houses on Christmas Eve! Nollaig Shona Daoibh from Junior Infants and our wibbly wobbly Christmas tree!
