Happy Easter from Junior Infants! We have had a very busy few months since Christmas. We celebrated our first Grandparents’ Day in January. We were so excited to see all of our grandparents in the community centre. We sang a song and recited a rhyme for them and afterwards they came to visit our classroom. It was a very special day!
We had such fun during Wellness Week. We walked a daily mile, read books and did ‘Shake Up to Wake Up’ movement breaks every morning. Our favourite day was when we got to bring in our blankets and pillows to school and do some meditation.
We visited Ms. Mullane’s classroom on Pancake Tuesday and bought yummy pancakes and treats. We were so excited to see the Book Fair come to our school. We visited it every day and bought lots of books, pencils, rubbers, pens and key rings. We enjoyed the parade that we had on World Book Day and everyone chatted about their costumes and characters. Ms. Mullane’s class did Buddy Reading with us and we really enjoyed it.
For Engineers Week, we made our own boats using cardboard and tin foil and tested whether they would float or sink. We learned a lot when most of them sank! Making mistakes help us to do better and we now know what we will be changing when we do our experiments again.
We love learning Irish and using our Irish words, so Seachtain na Gaeilge was great fun. We learned the haka ‘as Gaeilge’ and had a great time with Ms. Mullane’s class. They came over and practiced Shoe the Donkey with us that the whole school performed on the last day of Seachtain an Gaeilge.
We have started blending in our Literacy and we are getting really good at blending our sounds together to read words. We are also now doing Shared Reading every night and have started handwriting in school and at home. We are doing lots of rhyming words, sound games and rhymes together in class. We have also started number stories in Maths and are really enjoying doing them.
We have been very active this term and are loving taking part in ‘Run to Europe’. We ran to Belgium first and are hoping to make it to Sweden before Easter!
Thank you to Catherine who helps us in our classroom every day. We are looking forward to having a good rest and eating lots of Easter eggs after our hard work this term! Check back in with us again for more updates.
