Nollaig Shona daoibh!
We have been very busy in Rang a 3 and are delighted with the fantastic work we have accomplished since the start of the year. It has been so fun learning with one another and being part of the magical Christmas activities that we have enjoyed so very much.
We have been practising writing a letter and an envelope to a friend in Literacy lessons. We even wrote a letter to our Elf inviting him to come join our class. Our persuasive letters most definitely worked as Eddie the Elf arrived on December 1st! He left notes treating the class with rewards such as no homework, board games and Christmas crackers when we were concentrating and trying our best. It was lovely to have him in our class throughout the month. We also read extracts from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and even designed and created our very own chocolate bar. We also had lots of fun hosting our very own Late Late Toy Show where we reviewed our favourite toys and showed off our amazing talents, such as show and tell art, singing and playing the tin whistle!
In Maths, we have been learning our times tables each week and have played games in class such as Hit the Button to help us with them. We have focused on topics such as Division, Symmetry and Fractions and have been using concrete materials and real-life problems to assist us in our learning.
I gceachtanna Gaeilge, d'fhoghlaimíomar stór focal maidir le scoil, bia agus an Nollaig. We practised the poem Mo Mhála Scoile and used our surroundings to practice oral language tasks regarding school. We learned how to say the time in Irish and lots of vocabulary regarding Christmas. Games such as ‘Feicim le mo shuilín’ and ‘Cluiche Kim’ helped us practice together. When we met Santa, he was delighted to hear that we learned how to spell Daidí na Nollag!
We celebrated Science Week in SESE and completed some very interesting experiments. We created lava lamps testing different properties of materials. We also undertook a musical experiment with glass bottles, water, and a wooden spoon, therefore creating our own very classroom xylophone! We enjoyed sharing predictions and challenging ourselves to think outside to box.
One our favourite lessons was learning about the link between graffiti and activism. We learned about the artist Keith Harding and how he used his art to raise awareness about important issues and to catch people’s attention. We created our own graffiti art for anti-bullying week. Our messages included ‘be kind’, ‘stand up’ and ‘don’t be a bully, be a buddy’. This bright and beautiful art was displayed on the wall to remind people the importance of being kind to one another.
It has been a super term and we are looking forward to 2022!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Third Class!
