Third Class Summer Update

Rang a 3 has come to the end year and what an incredible final term it has been! Well done to everyone on the amazing work they completed this year and particularly during our final term in school.

This term, we were blessed to be able to complete some lessons outside in the glorious sunny weather. In Literacy, we read our class novel Bill’s New Frock and enjoyed some reading sessions outside. This novel brought up some really thrilling debates about school life and the class engaged excellently in all activities. It is clear that 3rd class are super readers and we loved reading our first class novel together.

We also were able to do some planting outside thanks to the parent’s council! On the celebration of our 10th green school flag, we received a goody bag with treats and sunflower seeds. We planted them into compostable containers and watched them grow! The class took turns in watering and tending to the seeds to give them the best conditions possible. Thank you so much to the parents council for organizing the amazing goody bags for us!

The celebration for receiving our 10th green school flag was so much fun. Declan Hannon came to raise the flag and even signed hurleys and jerseys for us. We celebrated with a whole school ceremony with members of the community. 3rd class learned and performed the song What a Wonderful World with the rest of the school to acknowledge the beautiful world we live in. Afterwards, the Liam McCarthy cup came and we were able to hold it and take photographs with it! To top it all off, an ice-cream turned up at our doorstep for us to enjoy some delicious 99’s. Thank you so much to everyone who worked so hard to make it such a special day for us all and well done to the Green School Committee members on their super work throughout the year!

As school terms go, this was a particularly busy one. 3rd class took control of the classroom for the last week in school with their Teach the Teacher projects! Each child chose a topic of interest, did research on the subject, created a PowerPoint or poster on it and then presented it to the class using a lesson plan format. Ms. Mc Morrow was more than impressed, with every single child teaching the class really interesting subjects. We learned about Lithuania, dolphins, the Senior Limerick Hurling Team, tractor, the music of Blur, the Avengers, Moon Knight and even how to Irish Dance! We also had musicians bring in their guitar and tin whistle to show us their unique talents. What amazing teachers we have!

We also set off on our school tour this term, where we joined Rang a 2 for a fun filled day in Mary Immaculate College withJust4Fun School Tours. There was a series of inflatable bouncy castles and obstacle courses for us as well as fun games such as tug-of-war and rounders. It was a superb day and the class loved having the day to play and create special memories together. On the way home, we stopped in McDonald’s as a special treat. The day that followed was our annual Sports Day which was a huge success. The pupils of Rang a 6 planned and organised lots of fun races for us such as the egg-and-spoon race, dress-up relay, wheelbarrow races and the3-legged race. Thank you so much to Ms. Mullane and Rang a 6 for hosting a great day!

It has been an absolute pleasure teaching Rang a 3 this year. The class worked so diligently throughout the whole year and there was always a great sense of fun to be found in the classroom! We had a pizza party to round up a great year and to celebrate together.

Well done everyone!

Wishing you all a safe and sunny Summer, slán go fóil!
