2nd and 3rd class have had a very busy 3rd term. We have worked on Energy and Forces in Science, in particular floating and sinking. We designed and moulded boats from plasticine and tested them in water to see if they would float. Once the boat floated, we added passengers (frozen peas) to the boat. 2nd and 3rd class have been learning about the Stone Age people in History and all about the sun, planets and solar system in Geography. We have been reading the novel ‘The Sheep Pig’ by Dick King Smith this month. It’s a really interesting and funny story and everyone enjoyed it. Last week, we watched the film ‘Babe’ based on the book.
On 25th May, 2nd class received our First Holy Communion in Kilcornan church with Fr Donworth, staff and pupils of Kilcornan N.S. and all our family and friends. The children read prayers, brought gifts to the altar and sang hymns with the Kilcornan school choir. 2nd class were accompanied by the talented musicians Amy and Megan in 5th and 6th class, Ms Wixted and her daughter Olive. After the mass, everyone went to the hall for refreshments provided by our Parents’ Association. We worked really hard to prepare for First Holy Communion and it was a very special day. The following week, as a treat for all our hard work, 2nd and 3rd class went on a Teddy Bears picnic and played parachute games in the hall. We also had fun competing in a hurling blitz.
We had a great year in 2nd and 3rd class and are all looking forward to our summer holidays. See you all in September!
