What a wonderful run up to the summer holidays we have had! Each day 3rd class have had something exciting taking place. It has been a pleasure to watch ‘Teach the Teacher’ lessons which the children so expertly taught throughout the month of June. The class enjoyed learning how to create animations, how wifi works, how to dance the macarena, how to make a skeleton hand out of paper and straws, how to draw a cat and they learned all about the game of chess. There were many more fantastic lessons which were well thought out and prepared by each pupil. Answering the ‘teachers’ questions was super exciting and engaging. Well done to all!
Summer is a lovely time of the year to create beautiful artwork. We painted stunning beaches with personalised flipflops. Brown sugar was used to add texture to the sand. We chatted about out plans for the summer holidays and the pupils used oil pastels to design bright, colourful oversized sunglasses depicting their plans for the break. To leave 3rd class on a positive, happy note we looked back at everything we learned, mastered, completed, loved and received throughout the year. The children then used vibrant watercolours to colour in their achievements. Take a look at the finished pieces !
The class have worked super hard at their Maths and English this year. They completed dictation sentences each day for the month of June, looking out for correct punctuation and spellings while ensuring their cursive handwriting was nice and neat. The children took part in Maths games and daily focus tasks to revise all of the topics covered in the curriculum this year. Well done 3rd on all the progress you have made in these subjects since September!
May and June were very active months. We spent time in the sunshine in the Astro Turf with our hurling coach, practicing new skills and playing matches. We ran to Turkey and Lisbon as part of the ‘Run Around Europe’ challenge. Each morning, the pupils walked 5 laps of the school which equated to 1km as part of the Fitkidz kilometre challenge. Go noodle was welcomed by the children on rainy days and we had great fun dancing to Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift. Gymnastics lessons and Active Week were great opportunities for the pupils to exercise while still having fun this year. There was great excitement when the ice-cream van arrived after our very successful Marathon Relay event. Well done 3rd class for giving it your all!
Our school tour to ‘Just4Fun’ camp in Mary I was thoroughly enjoyable. The children experienced obstacle courses, air mountain, bouncing castles, giant jenga and puzzles. They were given yummy treats to keep them going throughout the day. A successful day out overall and an excellent way to finish out a busy school year.
A special thank you to Marian for all of the hard work she has done for us this year, caring for and helping the children in 3rd class.
I have really enjoyed teaching 3rd and wish them all the best next year! Have a lovely summer everyone 😊
