Welcome to Second and Third Class! It has been an exciting and busy start to a new year.
Second class have a very special year ahead as they prepare for First Confession and First Holy Communion. Third class are excited to help with the preparation and share their experience from last year.
We have been doing Literacy Stations and the children are enjoying reading their graded books. We have been playing ‘Bananagrams’, a word building game, practising our cursive handwriting, becoming familiar with recount writing and coming up with lots of new words in a phonics station.
In Science, second and third class learned all about teeth and even experimented with egg shells in vinegar to remind us we need to brush everyday!
In Geography, we examined the map of Ireland and did our best to learn the provinces and all 32 counties of Ireland. We also researched our personal timelines and our Family Trees.
We made cool picasso portraits in art and also scary monsters out of clay just in time for Halloween!
Last week, the class went on a maths trail around the school trying to find as many 2D shapes as possible. We had to look really hard but found lots of them, it was great fun !
The children are enjoying learning tin whistle each week. They have learned new tunes, ‘Níl na Lá’ and ‘Irelands Call’ and are sounding great.
Check back in with us soon!
